Scotty Barnhart at the Monette Shop

Scotty Barnhart performed at the Monette shop for a small audience last night (July 18) and I was lucky enough to be invited for the special event. Scotty was just picking up his new Ajna and played two sets on this new horn and on his Flumpet. Accompanied by the local Gary Hobbs trio, Scotty played standards and his own compositions. He is a master of trumpet styles from the history of jazz, and gave a trumpet history review for over half of the 2nd set. His representations of Buddy Bolden, Louis Armstrong, Roy Eldridge, Dizzy, Miles, Wynton, etc., were amazing and really showed the evolution of our instrument in jazz.

Scotty was also selling & signing his new book, "The World of Jazz Trumpet, A Comprehensive History & Practical Philosophy." I have started reading it and the interviews with so many legendary trumpeters looks especially interesting. See also scottybarnhart and David G. Monette Corporation

This morning, I was back at the Monette shop to deliver some Ultra-Pure Professional Valve Oil, pick up my new C trumpet mouthpiece (Prana C4 Slap 81), and play the line-up of Bb models. Afterward, I got to talk to Scotty some more! Here is a picture I took while he was warming up for the morning. What a fantastic concert and what a great guy!

ken-

Sounds awesome, and that book is great! They gave me a copy to read on the plane when I went out to the shop (although mine isn't signed...). For anybody whose interested, check it out:

PS. I was over at Manny Laureano's house for a lesson a few days ago and he mentioned that he recently converted Chuck Lazarus (4th in the MO) to Ultra-Pure. It's great stuff, I've still got some from when I got my Monette.

Re: Scotty Barnhart at the Monette Shop

Scotty did mention to me that he will have a CD out under his own name as a leader in about a year. So I would guess that all the material is recorded and it just needs to be produced, etc. Should be a great one to look for!
