Totally psyched!

I auditioned into the University of Iowa's Jazz Reperatory Ensemble! I'm third trumpet...which is a great part for me. I'm really excited about it, and we're playing some GREAT music. I can't wait for our first performance!

I'm really looking forward to growing as a jazz musician, and maybe as a musician in general.

Is there anything I need to know about college jazz band? I mean...like...is there anything that's going to be drastically different from high school?

Thanks ya'll!

Sure the only difference is that in American Universities we have both kinds of beer, Bud and Bud Light.

Way to go Lara!

Wow...so all that's really different is that there's beer?

I'm still not old enough to drink here in the US, so, if I just practice, I should be ok then, right? Nothing different than normal! lol.

I can't wait for our first concert!

Royal Albert..... would that be the same Albert as Prince Albert of pipe tobacco fame..... might explain the smoke that keeps breaking out there -- seemingly always when Americans are due to performe -- Tony Bennet, Philadelphia Orchestra, etc.

Anyway, we're far afield here. Lara -- I hope you have fun playing in the ensemble, and will keep us filled in on your experience.

Lara,

You're not missing much...

You're at an age where many people have not found out how to drink without expelling the contents of their stomach's all over the place.

As far as drinking goes the next 5 to 8 years of your life will be a mixture of ups and downs; hopefully more good then bad. This of course depends on you!

By your posts and by what little I know about you I'd venture a guess to say that you'll do fine in both beer drinking (When the time comes) and Jazz band.

I'd imagine you'll be covering more complex pieces and have to master scales and improv but that's what it's all about right?

Bud and Bud light yuck!

Best to you Lara....
