| Updated MF tribute thing... I have had a lot of nice feedback about the copy of the original demo I did for Maynard Ferguson back in 1980. I decided to leave it up indefinitley (at my other site, because I can leave a lengthy explanation fo what the track is there). I did add to it though, in preparation for a MF tribute concert I am doing soon. One of my favorite MF recordings is his take on Summertime, done on the record with Max Roach, Dinah Washington, Clifford Brown and Clark Terry when he was in his twenties. In a practice session this evening I did a quick and dirty recording of my own tribute to Maynard's version of this tune. It is totally unaccompanaied and I left the flaws in this take in there. The Fox just played with abandon, come what may, and that is what I was going for. Here's the link to the site - directly to the track. http://www.mp3unsigned.com/showmp3.asp?mp3id=37730 I was unable to attend the tribute concert in St Louis and though I was invited to perform in Lexington for the other big tribute performance, I was unable to attend that as well. My status as high school physics teacher prevented me from being able to go. However, I will be performing in the Chicago area at a concert that was originally booked as a solo appearance for Maynard himself. Since he passed away the college band decided to not cancel the performance. They decided to find as many local MF alum as they could to perform in tribute to their experience. I'll post more details once I know all of the paperwork is in and I'm sure of who else beside me will be there. In the meanitme, please drop by my site and check this out. As I have oft posted before, this si serious trumpet geek stuff, but I wanted to share it with all. Peace! Nick Drozdoff |
