Warm up

Ok so back in the day I had the time to warm up with Bill Adam's three hour routine. Sadly those care free days are gone. I'm looking for a good well rounded 20-30 minute warm up to move on from and begin playing. I also had one of these back in the day but I'm not sure how good it really was. And those brain cells have left the building. All suggestions welcome!

thanks, trumpmac

Re: Warm up

I like the Louis Maggio System for brass warm ups. They are basically long tones, but they do the job well, I use them especially if I need a faster warm up.

Re: Warm up

Hey there

I also use the william adams routine, with a few slight changes by my instructor. Now, the routine's not ALL a warm up. Really, only the long tones and blowing lead pipe (if you do that) is really all a person needs to warm up. I do those as far out to High D most days. All together that only takes about 25 mins. But, i understand some people don't get warmed up that easily.

So, if your in need of a quickie, you can try starting a scale on, say, C, and playing C major from third space C up to high C and middle C. Do each note as a whole note, going the same distance out both octaves. You can do that with any scale. I hope that helps and I hope i explained it properly. :)

Re: Warm up

Yeah. I always considered the Adams routine more of a work out than a warm up.

Re: Warm up

I've moved away from having an extensive warm-up routine. Most of the plaiyng I do I have very little time to warm up or I sit and count for long periods before playing(Orchestral songs). At most I will play a couple of quick scales and diver right into my pieces.

In the begining it was tough and felt awkward, now it feels normal to me.

Re: Warm up

It shouldn't take more than 10 to 15 minutes to warm up After that youm are practicing or as was mentioned working out. If you use common sense and play easy at first you'll warm up. For example, something as basic as playing a C scale for 5 minutes will warm you up.
