| What should I play? Hi everyone. I'm pretty new to jazz, but recently, a desire to learn some jazz tunes on my own hit me like a ton of bricks right out of the blue. So can anyone suggest which trumpet player (or band) I should start with? I'm looking for something thats pretty easy, not smooth and slow like Miles Davis, but something more exciting, such as Louis Armstrong. Thanks =D |

| Re: What should I play? To me, the definitive hard bop groups are Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, the Horace Silver quintet, and the Clifford Brown/Max Roach quintet. Get a bunch of recordings by those groups, then get a bunch of recordings by the guys who played on those recordings, and then you'll have a decent collection of classic jazz. |
