Whatcha been lis'nin to lately?

Last night I saw Chris Botti at the Tilles Center in NY. I've seen him before and always left impressed. Last night I think he took it a little EZ on himself. He could afford to. With a band including Billy Childs on piano and Billy Kilson on drums there was no lack of jaw-dropping performances. A good show and a good time was had by me &7 the Ms.!

My bro turned me onto a trumpeter that somehow had escaped me. Tomasz Stanko. I'm now mesmerized by this guy. If he was off your r.a.d.a.r., check him out. He somehow reminds me of both Miles & Chet at the same time. I'm liking this a lot!

bandman will become famous soon enough
I've seen Chris Botti Live and I'm not impressed at all. Sorry, but live he never completes his musical thoughts/phrases and everything is very vanilla. I have enjoyed a few of his CD's, but he is definitely not a great live performer. (And yes, I recognize the fact that he plays trumpet better than I do -- I just don't like the way he plays.)

What have I been listening to in my CD players, as well as on my hard drive -- Gordon Goodwin and his Big Phat Band and Wayne Bergeron! Besides that I've been listening to www.theticket.com which is a great sports talk radio staion out of Dallas. It makes for great background noise when your working in the office and really don't feel like listening to some tunes.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy! I don't know much about the horn players, but they are talent to be reckoned with!

To be honest, I just got a Zen 20 gig mp3 player and ripped my entire CD collection plus a few downloads (paid) from my computer onto it. Normally I just run the "Random" button... all 3,500 tunes, all genres, all artists. Never know what's going to come up next! Everything from Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell to the Berlin Philharmonic, movie and Broadway soundtracks to the "YellowJackets"and Harry James. I love it all.

Hi Greg,

Tomasz is brilliant, I heard him live a couple of years ago and it was real nice.

Lately I've been listening too Kenny Wheeler on "Angel Song" and "What Now," Charles Tolliver box set from Mosaic, Louis Hot 5 and Hot 7, A WONDERFUL ALBUM FROM BASSIST ARTHUR KELL TITLED "TRAVELLER" - I put this is all caps because it is a beautifullly melodic album featuring a great great tenor player named Gorka Benitez (from Barcelona)-very inspirational playing, and finally music from the Riverside Records Boxed set - check this out - it's a great collection.

Cheers,
Jason
