NickD has a spectacular aura about
Who is your jazz and/or trumpet Jedi master?

This is my attempt to pay tribute to those who have helped and are still helping learn the ways of jazz music!

Jedi Master #1
Neil Dunlap - trumpet - Neal helped me learn how to play in so many ways. He has also helped many others. He's passed on now, but his legacy lives on.

Jedi Master #1
Joe Daley tenor sax - jazz instructor - Joe contributed to jazz in Chicago by teaching so many musicians on so many instruments. Joe is also no longer with us, but his students are legion.

Jedi Master #3
Rich Corpolongo - alto sax jazz instructor - Rich picked up with me as my jazz teacher after Joe. Rich solidified Joe's method by writing a three volume system based on it. Rich is also an astonishing jazz alto player.

Jedi Master #4
Alan Swain - jazz piano - Alan is my piano teacher and is also my son's teacher. Alan is helping me put my piano skills to work on my tumpet playing better.

Who is your most infuential teacher(s)??

Nick

Buzz,
Yeah- I was at Berklee from 79 until 83. Probably should have put herb Pomeroy in there to boot.
Were we there at the same time??

Re: Who is your jazz and/or trumpet Jedi master?

Since I'm a new comer to Jazz my "jedi's" are from the Nashville studio scene. They are:

Roger Spencer; bass player and encyclopedic brain,
Lori Spencer; Pianist and very hip lady,
Jeff Coffin; Saxophone and Wild Man on Stage
Rod McGaha; Trumpet and philosopher, and
Beegie Adair; Pianist extraordinaire and Grand Lady of Nashville Jazz

Beegie can improvise on the most difficult changes and explain what she's doing at the same time. She doesn't miss a lick.

These are all very talented folks and all are loving and giving.
