| Wynton : Portrait of Louis Armstrong I just saw this for the first time....really sweet recording. Wynton captures the style and plays it really well. Interesting to hear another artrist's "take" on another's style as distinctive as Louis Armstrong....take a look. Very fun to listen to. http://www.dailymotion.com/visited/s...alis-lcjo-2002 |

The man is phenomenal ! His father and younger brother Jason with a bassist were in Pittsburgh,Pa last Thursday through Sunday giving us a "A Celebration of New Orleans Music." The old man played a few Herbie Hancock compositions including Dolphin Dance before giving us some "Holiday Soul" akin to Bobby Timmons in 1965 with Butch Warren, bass and Walter Perkins, drums. The Re-Birth Brass band was the last act and they featured a trumpeter that made Johnny Coles look tall.

He can also dance, and dances well. The program listed three (3) trumpeters (Derrick Shezbie,Glen Andrews, and Shamar Allen) but only two (2) were on the bandstand. Since Dizzy,he is the only trumpet player I've seen with a puff cheek (right) when he blows. Is that the result of him storing air in the 'jowls' rather than the 'lungs' ?
