2 Questions here! First question : I'm looking for a bag that can hold my trumpet, a few mouthpieces, and all my mutes. Does such a thing exist? (5 Mutes) Second : I normally play on a Bach 3c, but for a few of the more "stratospherical" (is that even a word?) songs in jazz I switch to a 13a4a (sometimes even a 6a4a) to get the sound I desire. I find that when I switch back to my 3c after playing on them though that it becomes a bit too tough to handle. Any advice on this matter and how I can be comfortable switching between the two? Thanks! (Not the same DLP as before. Actually a friend of his) Last edited by DLP08 : 04-24-2008 at 11:36 PM.

Re: 2 Questions here! Torpedo Bag? They seem to fit everything in there and are fairly inexpensive. You could also try WolfPac...

Re: 2 Questions here! I am assuming that you want to carry everything in one bag without the "add-ons" like a mute bag, etc. Why don't you look at the Reunion Blues double and its clones (Gard and Guardian). Being that it is a bag type and not hard structured you can get all sorts of things in the space where the second trumpet is supposed to go. I bought one of the Guardians a couple of years ago on eBay and it did very well. I think I paid $40 for it. When I would go to NABBA I would shove five mutes, my music folder, my cornet, oil, tuner, spare glasses (!), etc, and still had plenty of room. I upgraded a month or so ago and sold that one to a student here. He loves it for carrying his cornet, trumpet and about ten tons of music. Those three choices are about the same style and give you a wide range of prices, too. Good luck, Bill

But for the mouthpiece I would suggest when you practice, try switching back and forth, or, better yet, just use one of them. The other thing to try to get a mouthpiece with a matching rim but a different cup. so play lead on a 3D or 3E and everything else on a 3C, or lead on a 13a4a and everything else on a 13B4c or some such-i don't know schilke mouthpieces all that well but i'm sure if you visit a shop with some stock you can try a few and see what you can play on. Switching between various sized cups can confuse your chops sometimes (read: it does unless there is a very specific reason why it wouldn't) | |

Re: 2 Questions here! Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies! I did alot of research on the above mentioned bags and while they seem great, you all got me thinking a mute bag would do just fine, so I think I'll go with that. As for the 3C, I like your idea, badmangood. I think it may be time to retire my good old bach and try different variations of a nice schilke 13. Thanks again
