3M Tarnishield - Did I ruin my mouthpiece?

A few weeks ago, I used Tarnishield on my silver Bach mouthpiece. It works great. Unfortunately, I cleaned the rim and inside the cup. Now mouthipiece is very sticky on my lips and is almost not usable. I rinsed it thoroughly but it doesn't help. Is there anything I can do to bring back the slippery surface?

Thanks.

try scrubbing it with a mild abrasive. I'd start with toothpaste. If that doesn't work I'd try baking soda, then maybe softscrub....

The toothpaste sounds like a good-one.
And Do you use a mouthpiece brush to clean it? That should remove any residue.

Who would of thought of soap in these modern times where every thing is specialized, how old fashioned!

I guess I should have been more detailed in my original post. I tried things like rinsing, washing with soap and water, and alcohol.

Now I've tried toothpaste (with a toothbrush). It left some very fine scratches but the mouthpiece is still sticky. I'm thinking the Tarnishield did not leave a residue but instead removed something other than tarnish. Or maybe I just need to let some tarnish build up again. Interestingly, I used Tarnex on my mouthpiece about a year ago (before I heard about Tarnishield) and I did not have the same problem.

I've always used a mouthpiece brush for the backbore but not the rim. I guess I can try that.

Re: 3M Tarnishield - Did I ruin my mouthpiece?

I've used TarniSheild for years. Never had any problems. It is supposed to be one the more non-abrasive polishes.

I'm thinking your silver finish had deteriorated before the poishing and that process revealed the state of your silver finish.

Try soaking it for an hour in 50/50 warm water and white vinegar. Rinse well.
