![]() | 7C/5C Bach Mouthpieces? What exactly is the difference between them, and how much of an impact could these differences have on a player? |

![]() | Re: 7C/5C Bach Mouthpieces? Assuming they are both built according to factory spec, the 5C has a slightly larger diameter. The impact on a player depends on how long you've been playing and how good you are. If you are a beginner, the difference will be zero. If you are VERY good, the difference will still be very slight with the 5C being a little more comfortable and giving you a slightly bigger sound. What are you trying to accomplish?

![]() | Re: 7C/5C Bach Mouthpieces? As a young trumpeter, I was curious as to what the difference was, because my band director wants all trumpets on at least a 5C (which I am using). I just wasn't quite sure the difference between that and a 7C and how much it would truly make a difference in young players. |

![]() | Re: 7C/5C Bach Mouthpieces? First off, that's silly to require everyone to be playing on a certain size mpc. As some one on one of these forums once said - that's like requiring all of the runners to wear shoes bigger than a 9, regardless of foot size. 2nd, Visually Kanstul Mouthpiece Comparator, look at a B5C and B7C for the comparison 3rd, talk to your private teacher before switching mpcs, and what he wants you to do.

It's stupid to say that everyone should play something 5C or larger. I don't and I still work a little. Maybe after the word gets out I won't!

![]() | Re: 7C/5C Bach Mouthpieces? Actually, my private teacher is soon going to have me try out new mouthpieces. I never seriously considered getting a new mouthpiece without approval from him ever since I got the 5C a little over a year ago. I never really thought of the small difference between the two mouthpieces. I just remember that the freshmen should move to at least a 5C, maybe a 3C, but I believe 5C was suggested. |

![]() | Re: 7C/5C Bach Mouthpieces? I have found, and now sort of collect them, that the older Vincent Bach Corp. mouthpieces are really great for me. I believe most were produced in the 1970s. They are very comfortable, they shine up nicely with a bit of Simichrome polish and for me at least they play well on my new and old horns. I have them for both trumpet and cornet in 5C, 6, 7C and 10 1/2C. I have seen them in 6, 6C and 3C but haven't managed to get those yet. I have on a rare occasion seen a 1C. They are also usually reasonably priced on eBay. The newer Bach mouthpieces I like also, but they don't seem to play the same tone on my horns as the ones that say Vincent Bach Corp. Dottie
