Al hirt's mouthpiece on the old cotton candy album I have posted this on a nother site, but on the cover of al's album cotton candy. The horn he's holding has a what looks like a paduba mothpiece. Now most of know that you uses a jet tone. Does anyone know what mouthpiece he is using in this album? Heres a link to a pic of it and a closer pic of the mouthpiece. http://photobucket.com/albums/e102/s...t=IMG_0025.jpg

Can't get the resolution fine enough to discern .... However; I have this LP (somewhere; I have over 5000, most in storage). Will try to find it, and examine with magnifying-glass. Robert Rowe

"JUMBO" used a custom Jet-Tone later marketed as the Al Hirt model A. He could, as the legend goes, play on ANYTHING. But, album cover photos aren't trustworthy documents due to photographers using "props" and manufacturors (now-a-days) buying "airtime." Another possible explanation for the "Cotten Candy" photo is the candy in the bell and the possibility of the mouthpiece dropping out onto the floor, requiring the good judgement of NOT using Al's real equipment.

... hmm .... Wonder if he (or anyone) ate the "cotton candy" (?). I don't think Al's "fried-chicken 'n dumplins" diet was working .... Robt Rowe
