Asymmetric opinion

Just curious what the general concensus is with the Asymmetric mpcs. Recently borrowed one from someone to try it out and had some success with it..in the practice room only. Got a couple more notes up high with tremendous power.

Is anyone playing one full-time and likes it? I can't help but fell like I'd be cheating if I played it. What do you guys think?

Thanks

Re: Asymmetric opinion

It does work for some players. I'm not one of them. If it works for you, and you're happy with your sound, intonation, response, endurance and all those other things we get paid for plus you get a couple extra notes -- it's not cheating: it's the perfect mouthpiece for you!

Have fun!

I'm sure Nick Drozdoff will chime in for you; I believe he plays the Lynch mouthpieces. You could try getting in direct touch with him (user= NickD)

Re: Asymmetric opinion

I'd love to hear from Nick on this. Read the info on his site about it and listened to the "Asymmetric Stomp". I'd like to try it out at a rehearsal but fear that it would screw me up with my standard mpc. Hate to take the chance. Nick said that he has been able to switch to a standard piece for different styles of playing. The set up is really low on the chops 1/3 top lip and 2/3 bottom...don't know if that would mess me up.

Re: Asymmetric opinion

It worked for me way back in high school (search for "Mike Dellert" under the testimonials). Now, it doesn't work so well, but such is life. If it works for you, then why not use your best tools for the job?

Re: Asymmetric opinion

I have talked to Mr. Lynch in the past. I was hoping he would expand the line to more options. Injection molding may help get the cost down. I am in the market for asymetric when I see a Bach 3D equivalent for a baseline.

Re: Asymmetric opinion

Just got my Asymmetric mouthpiece today , played for an hour or so , I think it will take a bit of getting used to but it's early days yet. Let you know how it goes over the next few weeks.

Re: Asymmetric opinion

Ken,

Our friend on the the forum here, NickD, plays the Assymetrics exclusively and he's AWESOME with it. I'm a comeback player and I have an assymetric, I've tried it a few times, but right now I'm playing a Jet-tone MF (yeah, the one that looks like a funnel).

I found the Assymetric to be decent in the upper range, but getting it to work for me in the lower range was difficult. But I will admit, I've not given it the total dedication it deserves. I also believe there are numerous variables here that only you can sort out: your embrochure, your sound, what kind of playing do you want to do?

The one thing I've learned here is: embrochures are like opinions, eveybody has there own.

Give it your best shot. If it works for you, great. If not, there's certainly a huge selection of mouthpieces out there.

Good luck,
Steve

Re: Asymmetric opinion

I find changing mouthpieces very difficult. It takes me several months to adjust because of my infrequent playing. Will not need a day job or other responsibilities in my next life :>) Have read Lynch's book, he knows what he is doing. Sounds like it takes a lot of time and dedication to re-learn his embouchre and adjust to his mpce. If you play frequently, it may take less time, and be worth it!--HH

Re: Asymmetric opinion

I have two of them and liked them very well, my range did not increase but my endurance just about doubled. I stopped using them because I lost flexability. They are just sitting in the practice room if someone wants to trade for a Reeves 41M or S let me know. Dave
