![]() | Bach vs Schilke #3 rim This is not the classic (and overly debated) thread about which is better. I'm currently playing a 3C and working on playing with less pressure. I'm wondering, does the Schilke #3 rim (rounder than the Bach) make it easier to create a good seal with less pressure? I already know there is supposedly the benefit of greater flexibility with the rounder rim.

![]() | Re: Bach vs Schilke #3 rim I have not heard less clear before. Something else to consider, I guess. Does that mean less clear tone or less clear articulations (or both)? But you still like the Schilke rim despite it being less clear?

![]() | Re: Bach vs Schilke #3 rim Actually, here is a more direct question that is relevant to me: I have a Bach 3C and a Yamaha 16C4-GP. With the 3C: I'm happy with the tone, range, comfort and endurance. With the 16C4-GP: I'm happy with the range; very happy with the tone and comfort. Endurance is not as good as the 3C (I lose my range quicker). I would expect this with a bigger mouthpiece, so I've been sticking with the 3C. However, with the 3C, I'll occasionally crack notes or my lips will stop vibrating momentarily as I'm playing a passage, especially when playing softly. This happens MUCH less with the 16C4. Is this also characteristic of a larger mouthpiece?
