Best and Cheapest Case

So I've noticed that a lot of higher quality pro trumpets (i.e. Schilke) don't include cases w/ the purchase.

With that thought in mind, what is the best case to get that also cheap?

I've looked at Pro-tec and their slimline countoured trumpet case seems pretty cheap seeing how it comes with pro-tec protection.

I have a pro-tec case and am satisfied so far. However, having heard from other's experiences, it might disintegrate itself if you use it very often.

But for the price... they're nice.

Re: Best and Cheapest Case

I love all of my Pro-tec cases!
The price was great!
It fits my Schilke B1L perfect as well as great protection for it! And there is lots of for all my other stuff, ie. Mutes, horn stand, tuner, plus!

Re: Best and Cheapest Case

I specifically wanted to get a replacement hard case for my grandfather's trumpet. While there are a bazillion hard cases out there, very few are large enough to hold a Harmon mute or cup mute. For that reason, I had Interstate Music (which happens to be local to me) order me a DEG hard case. After waiting six months, it turned out to be ok, but had I seen it in person, I think I would have said, forget the mutes, and bought a Gator instead.

I do not trust these soft cases with my heirlooms. But, that's just me.

Re: Best and Cheapest Case

The Pro-Tec Contoured cases are excellent IMO. Protect the horn well and inexpensive relative to other similar types. I don't have a "slim-line" model but rather the normal one. I use it all the time (for several years now) with no problems whatsoever. It is the only single case I use. Hard molded shell is very stiff and rigid as I prefer. Extra zipper pouch is integrated for tuners, oil, etc.

I use the Pro-Tec Triple and Quad cases as storage cases for my home but they are not rigid like the contoured single case.

The contoured comes in the fabric cover as well as the leather cover. Both are identical otherwise.

The Pro-Tec Single hard case is the best!

Re: Best and Cheapest Case

Hey,
I use both a pro-tec single, and a Reunion Blues triple, in addition to other hard cases.... when it comes to cases, don't skimp to save a few bucks. The extra $100 or so will save you from a dented horn and a lot of pain later. Pro tecs are great cases, also look at Wolpaks, Reunion Blues, et cetera. A bit more costly, but really well designed.

good luck

Re: Best and Cheapest Case

Like I said, depends on your use. If you're going to use it everyday on the plane... invest in something $$$/quality. Otherwise, the good old pro-tec is just fine. Unless you plan on rolling over it with an 18-wheeler.

Re: Best and Cheapest Case

Hi,

What's the advantage of placing a good horn in a cheap case?

The case takes the abuse and protects the beauty and functionality of the horn. A good-to-better quality case is an investment that protects your investment for years. Buy the best one you can afford.

Quality should always be the consideration for buying a case, not whether it is cheap.

Like the older horse rancher said: "If you want to buy good oats, you must pay a fair price. But, if you will settle for oats that have gone through the horse, they are a lot cheaper."

Buy a good-to-better case for your valued instrument!

Best wishes,

Lloyd

Re: Best and Cheapest Case

My pro-tec triple fell apart after a year of college music-major use.
I invested in a Marcus Bonna triple two years ago and it still is in brand new condition. Invest in a good case instead of going through a new cheap case every few years.
