![]() | Best gig bag for a student? I am looking for a good gig bag. I would need one that was a backpack style and had some extra storage space for school stuff or whatever I might feel like taking along with me. Any ideas where I could find a bag like this that won't kill my savings? I need one before Rose Parade. Much thanks for any info! |

| Fortissimo User | There is no "good" gig bag for students who value their instruments. A gig bag leaves the horn virtually unprotected against falls, doors closing on it, clumsy feet giving the old "boot". You want an gig CASE. Something that will ensure that your horn makes it back to home or residence undamaged. Solid, protective. The Extreme might do the job. Also don't leave out "Torpedo Bag" (run a search here in the forums for that one). An ever-increasing number of people are going to that latter one incuding professionals. |

![]() | It took me two times to finally figure out that gig bags are bad news. The first time, the gig bag slipped off my shoulder and the bag very lightly hit the floor. Cost? A new, silverplated 25-0 leadpipe was required to put my nice 72* Strad back to proper playing condition. The second time caused damage to a gold-plated horn, requiring it to have to be shipped across the country to the factory for repair and replating. If I wasn't so dumb, I'd have learned after the first accident. Today my gig bags hold my PA mic and speaker cords, horn stands, mutes, etc. Don't be a dummy like me . . . get a case that will protect your horns . . . unless you like to spend $$$$$ getting your horns back into playing shape. T. PS: The definition of "nervous" is when you have to fly to different gigs . . . and have to worry about other folks cramming stuff into the overhead racks where your gig bag horns are stowed. The other definition of "nervous" is when they don't have overhead storage on smaller connectiong planes, and they insist that your horns will be "safe" in the luggage storage area below! Never again! |

![]() ![]() | I'll second wht Tootsall said. Torpedo Bags are not really "bags" at all and offer extreme protection at a fair price. -cw-

| New Friend | Another recommendation of the Torpedo Bag. It isn't really a "bag" at all, as its hard-sided, and will protect your trumpet from anything you can throw at it.

| Piano User | How many horns will you be carrying? The BAM cases are really nice and have extra room. They're pretty pricey and large for a single or double case but the protection is impeccable and they're pretty good for traveling. If you're hell-bent on a gig bag, I'd recommend either the Allora by Gard bags or the standard Reunion Blues. |
