| Re: can u adjust to a mouthpiece? Some food for thought... Airy sound comes from "open" chops and / or too much air passing through the lips. Stiff lips, lips pinned open, lips being blown open can cause this. If you are getting an airy sound on a smaller mouthpiece, you may want to analyze how much pressure you're using, how much air your blowing and how big or small your appeture is. Bottom line is that you can adjust to anything, you just have to know what and how to adapt. K |

| Re: can u adjust to a mouthpiece? I used to play a 20D2d and never felt like I was swimming and back in High School could play the darn thing for HOURS!!! I downsized first to 1C then down to 3C and now my 43.5/B 692s from Bob Reeves. I had a 43.5/D 69 that i kept bottoming out on BADLY but now when I borrow it back I can slam the low notes with no problems at all. So long story short.... YUP!!! Just takes time! Yes endurance is up big time now. |

![]() | Re: can u adjust to a mouthpiece? You might just be a trumpet player trapped in a horn player's body. I've had students in the past that struggled getting a good sound out of the trumpet, tried horn and fell in love at first blow. You might want to consider giving horn a try, just a couple of notes or so, to see if it might be a better fit. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: can u adjust to a mouthpiece? Trumpetguy, I would not waste your money on any mouthpieces without any basic intelligent analysis. First of all, if you are not practicing regularly, your "opinion" is based on a moving target and therefore, useless. If you do not have a daily routine that keeps your chops together - THAT is where you start. Your teacher recommended a Schilke 15 and probably had good reasons to, you decided to buy something much bigger for no valid reason and now you want a recommendation on what to do next. O.K. my recommendation: Stop wasting your time and do what your teacher says. They know you and your playing and have a better chance of getting it right than any internet diagnosis based on B.S. |

| Re: can u adjust to a mouthpiece? My question would be why do you need a smaller mouthpiece? If I had small lips I would gladly play ona smaller mouthpiece but it just doesnt work for me. I have big lips and even with my embouchure "fixed" so my aperture is small, I need a larger mouthpiece to keep the edges off the red of my lips and on the muscle. I did use a Schilke 20 for a while years ago but mainly I used a Bach 1 and then downsized to the Monette 1-5. I have tried 3c and that size of rim did work but I did not have as much endurance as on the larger rim. I also use a yamaha 16c4 occasionally, which is rather like a Bach 1 1/2c or a Monette 2. |
