![]() | Case repair, cleaning, restoring I have always messed around with cases, trying to bring old ones back to life. The old cases have so much class, style. Unfortunately they spend years in garages, sheds, attics. They get bug doo, dirt, paint, all manner of indignation after 30-40 years. Here are some before and after (3 hours) of a friends case. Loose trim, several shades of paint, rips, tears, medical tape?? Anyway, thought I would share. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() | Re: Case repair, cleaning, restoring Latches I don't get into, the rest is gentle cleaning with a special soap that has linseed oil in it, some leather dye (careful!) tape for masking, magnifying glass, several sharp tools, a new handle, glue for the loose trim, non stick tape to hold it in place while the glue dries, lacquer thinner (again, careful) to remove paint spots, spills. Few other things... The latches I would find a pro to do, need special tools etc.

| Forte User | Re: Case repair, cleaning, restoring Wow great job! We do lots of case repair at my shop because with such a large rental fleet, it would be too much work to replace the case or send it out for repair everytime something happened to it. Mostly we use hot glue to put back the liners and then we have many types of rivets and fasteners to put back hinges and handles and whatnot. I recently thought it would be a nice project to restore my Buescher Aristocrat case including re-upolstering the inside, but I haven't decided how I am going to do that bit yet. Hopefully it turns out as nicely as your case did.

![]() | Re: Case repair, cleaning, restoring Thanks guys. Wish I knew more about rivets and upholstery, would love to tackle inside felt replacement some day and get better at latch replacement. The biggest thing I think we all would agree is if there were some easy way to just replace the little pop up springs without replacing the whole latch, that seems to be the part that wears out or breaks the most. I mean, really......You would think they could have made them stronger! They stop working after only 30-40- years
