![]() | clear Kelly? I'm looking at those Kelly mouthpieces. And i'm just not sure which colour to get! Glow-in-the-dark would be amazing. But i don't play in the dark very much. So i guess there goes that idea. The main question... I really think the idea of a clear mouthpiece would be cool, but my only hesitation would be it getting grimy and gross inside of it. And then you can see the crap because it's clear. I don't think this would actually happen very much, but it came to mind. What do you guys think?

With a clear mouthpiece you can see your lips inside the mouthpiece (with a mirror) working for about .005 seconds until the mouthpiece fogs up, and if you can see the grime it should be a signal to clean the mouthpiece. On the other hand, if you drop it, it might be hard to find!

![]() | Re: clear Kelly? Come to think of it, Vulgano Brother has come up with what software developers call an "undocumented feature". I've never actually had crap in any of my mouthpieces, but if I did, I'm pretty sure I would consider not being able to find the mouthpiece a bonus. They're cheap enough to be considered disposable when filled with crap. If you feel otherwise, they do offer a glow-in-the-dark model which would be easy to find even during a halftime show.

![]() | Re: clear Kelly? I should buy them both then? That's a good point Vulgano Brother. I hadn't thought about it fogging up. I just thought it would look cool if you couldn't see the mouthpiece from the audience area. And i suppose if i buy them, and it don't look as cool as i want, they're innexpensive good mouthpieces right?

![]() | Re: clear Kelly? I have a clear and green kelly for the trumpet, a blue for the flugel and a ebony and ivory colour for the cornet. The clear might steam up for a bit but it does go away again. I've never had a problem with any of them. They are all very comfortable and for the prices they are bargains. I've not tried a glow in the dark one, sounds cool though.

![]() | Re: clear Kelly? Kelly mouthpieces are made from polycarbonate. Look up some of the possible effects of polycarbonate if used in water bottles here. Then, consider that you would be licking the polycarbonate mouthpiece for at least a couple hours a day under a consistent practice schedule. Make your own conclusions. |
