Re: copper bell

I agree your probably playing in tune most people play out of tune just to hear themselves just to put my two cents in I think that a red brass bell sounds about the best {selmer k mod, with red brass bell} And it sure plays sweet

Re: copper bell

If you have the front bell brace removed, or just moved back, your present horn will have MUCH more feedback!

Re: copper bell

One of the differences between my Getzen 700SP (silverplated) and my Eterna 900 (lacquered) is the feedback recieved from the Getzen 900. It makes quite a large difference to my playing in that I now know that I am not playing too softly. There is a better 'blend' in the section because I'm actually pulling my weight and it takes some of the 'stridence' from the lead end of the section (it seems).

Re: copper bell

copper bells are darker than yellow brass bells. If you are getting lost in your section, this will only make it worse.with out hearing your section I can't tell what the problem may be. All the previous post make excellent coments. Find a good teacher for advice. does you band director play a brass instument. what does he say? can he hear you? it may be that you need to learn how to hear yourself or it may be th reasons in the other posts. can't really say but a copper bell is not the answer.

I disagree, every horn has a certain amount of "feedback" to the player. I've found that depending on the bell material, thickness and taper you'll get a varying "feedback" effect from each one.

Re: copper bell

Kanstul's No.7 copper bell is awesome! It's not fully copper but has a certain amount of copper content in it. It can play fairly dark but when pushed it comes to life and can really sizzle.

Re: copper bell

Ditto the remarks about not hearing oneself unless playing out of tune.

This reminds me of the comedian and violinist Ted Ray, he once said that when he played in a good orchestra, he was so bad he thought he was going to be sacked, so he decided to soap his bow so he would never again play a note out of tune or otherwise, and keep his job unnoticed in the ranks.

The conducter never heard him play anything again, and decided he must be playing well.

Several rapid promotions due to not being heard resulted in his being seated no 1 violinist.

The result was he had to resign anyway as the cat was well and truly out of the bag.

Re: copper bell

i think it has been an amount of me blending, but i can tell when im soloing that its harder to tell what kind of sound im producing. im just going to learn to deal with it. unless i find a local custom shop to move the brace like rowuk said.
