Cornet & Flugel case

Is it me, or am I surfing on another planet?
Why can't I find a case or even a bag (gig type) that is made to hold a cornet and flugel.

Am I the only blower with this combo? Should I try flute and double base or some other common combo?

I spoke to Protec who sell the PB301F (trumpet & flugel), which looks just the ticket, but their customer services were not very helpful.
My obvious concern is about the cornet's extra height over the trumpet.
Can anyone advise cos, I'm having trouble getting the double base under my chin.

Much appreciate any assistance
Thanks
Geoff (in UK)

Have you tried the Reunion Blues Triple, Super Triple or doublers gig bag? If the bag can fit a trumpet/flugel, it should have no problem fitting a flugel and cornet? My friend used to fit a Benge cornet and Yamaha flugel in a RB Triple. I can fit 2 Yamaha flugels in a RB triple. Your cornet height isn't taller than a flugel, is it?

Along those same lines, Glenn Chronkite (the original designer of Reunion Blues) should have something that fits.

Good luck,

The Marcus Bona triple works great with flugel and cornet. You move the dividers and pads around to suit different horn combinations, so it sets up very nicely for my Lawler cornet and Vintage One flugel. As the name implies, it'll handle three full sized trumpets or cornets.

Garry and Dave,
Thanks for your expert input, I will investigate your suggestions. I would have preferred a hard case like the one for trumpet & flugel by Protec (PB301F) but Protec would not alay my fears of the cornet rattling around. Don't you think they'd try one!!!
It does seem a neglected combo although I know many blowers who would invest and it puzzles me why manufacturers have missed an obvious opportunity. I think the first one to advertise will clean up.
Thanks again guys
Best regards
Geoff

Geoff, in the ProTec Vax roller-case there are two, large wedges with Velcro attachment so you can place them to secure a cornet. A cornet is VERY secure in that particular ProTec.

With the Marcus Bona you do much the same thing, rearranging various Velcro-secure pads to hold various types of horns in place.

Garry, I noticed your comment about the extra height of your cornet. Now, it depends upon the particular make/model of cornet: I have a Getzen Eterna 800 which is REALLY tall... I have to use a trumpet/flugel case (PB301VAX) to hold it and the trumpet. You have a problem particular to brass banders... cornet and flugel. (I certainly could not carry the Eterna and a flugel in my VAX). If, however, your cornet isn't all "that" tall, the VAX would probably work for you. Good luck... and if you find something that works let us know.

Tootsall-

It was Geoff's cornet, not mine. But I know what you're talking about. I used to play a Getzen Eterna: tall valve casings, shepards crook, and that different wrap near the main slide. Probably the reason those play so well. (I'm trying to buy one!!)

I agree to try to avoid gig bags. I've stopped using soft bags for about 5 years. I don't think there is a hard case for flugel/tall cornet that won't involved some kind of "tilting" or overlapping of horns (with some kind of padding). In addition to the padding, I'd recommend some kind of straps (velcro, etc.) to hold those in position. Those wedges, however, in the vax look like they would do the job.

Have to checked out the raw brass cases?

Tootsall,
My flugel is a Yam 631 (about 10" max height) and Besson Prestige cornet (about 8" max) will they fit the Vax.
Thanks
Geoff

I'm certain that the 631 easily fits, but I'll have to measure the inside tonight to be certain of the cornet, unless someone beats me to it.

Geoff... when you say the cornet measures 8" tall.. is that bottom cap to top valve button? or top of bell? (I should know since I used to have an 827(?) but that was years ago).

My flugel is Jupiter 846L, a copy of the Yamaha 631/731. Quite a tight fit but it will go. I'll check this evening and see if I could squeeze the cornet and flugel in (although I don't have high hopes... that cornet is so tall that it really has to go in "tilted over from vertical"). How much taller than a regular trumpet is the cornet? (If you have one available for comparison).
