Custom MP, who?
I am playing on the Yamaha Bob Sullivan model and love it on my C, but want a smaller throat for my Bb. It has a Schilke 1CH (copy of Herseth's 1c) rim, 5B underpart, 23 throat and 24 back bore.

So what I want is 1ch,5b, 24, 24... or maybe a 25 throat, not sure.

Who would you recommend I have make this MP? Would Yamaha make this for me? Cost is an issue, after all these grad school auditions I am broke :)

Kanstul does more "one-off" work like this than probably anyone.

So it looks like I would need to buy another yamaha for the rim, a bach 5b for the rest, make it a screw rim, and open up the throat and backbore. Whew... this is getting complicated.

If you're broke, give up on the idea. No reason to make yourself crazy.

Put all that attention and energy into practicing so you can nail your auditions.

My Dad used to say, Arnold Palmer could put with a broomstick.

I am done with auditions now (nailed a few of them :), but thanks. By saying I am broke, I meant that I don't want to pay over $150, but could swing under $100. I know I can use it on Bb and I have been doing pretty well with it. I just feel a smaller throat would make articulations a little crisper and help some other things.

So who has the best prices on taking 2 mouthpieces and making a screw rim setup for it?

Congrats! My mistake.

I head the name Jim New a couple weeks ago from the trumpet player who's running the bands at the loacal Jr. College.

He's an awsome player, and he had nothing but amazing things to say about the craftsmenship.

In his case, he was getting an old mouthpiece copied.
