![]() | Do tighter backbores "back up" more? Do tighter backbores tend to back up more when trying to use a lot of air? I'm not even 100% sure what backing up means. Thanks! Ryan |

![]() | Re: Do tighter backbores "back up" more? So, with that in mind, what would be the expected outcome/results of someone who was "over matched" with their backbore. In other words, the player was trying to put more air through the backbore than it was designed to accomodate? |

Tighter backbores do not "back up" and the goal of playing trumpet is no to put the maximum amout of air through the horn, it is making music with the breath of life. If a player is not looking for balance with their instrument, many things don't work. I never hear working pros talking about horns "backing up". I need a short acclimation time with any horn that I am not familiar with. If it has more resistance, it could be more efficient. That gives me more sound for less work. Leave putting air through the horn for the jocks working at gas stations.

![]() ![]() | Re: Do tighter backbores "back up" more? How free a mouthpiece blows depends on the size of the throat , cup size ,depth ,and shape . The gap between the end of the mouthpiece and the receiver also affects the amount of resistance felt . |
