I would like to ask what type of taper this flugel use. Standard, bach or french? I need to buy a mouthpiece but I am not sure about the taper.
Thank you for the info.

Re: etherna by getzen flugelhorn

Standard...Bach mouthpieces do not fit (unless you get the standard taper).

loudog,

Thank you for the information. I was browsing the hardware section in your webpage and saw that you have a getzen etherna flugelhorn. Could you please share your performing experience with the instrument?

Re: etherna by getzen flugelhorn

I have a Getzen Eterna 4-valve flugel from the mid-70's. It originally took the standard shank mouthpiece. However, for $20, I got a leadpipe from Getzen that accepts the Bach shank.

I like the horn a lot. It has a larger bore, plays very easy, and has a nice rich sound. I've never had a problem with the valves. I use it a lot when playing in a jazz combo.

Re: etherna by getzen flugelhorn

When I tried a new Getzen Eterna flugelhorn last year, the standard shank Yamaha flugel mouthpieces were wobbly upon insertion. It seems Getzen went with the French taper (which is not a taper, please look up). We had a discussion about this on TH.

Re: etherna by getzen flugelhorn

I like my flugel okay. I play mostly classical music, with the occasional big band gig, so I rarely play it. It's silver plated, mint condition, and I bought it from a friend for $300...a great deal.

Intonation is okay, it blows okay, but it's definitely not the best flugel out there. But for as little as I play it, and what I paid for it, it's been fabulous for me.
