![]() | Flugel mouthpiece on a trumpet - good/bad? I play in a Jazz band and occasionally need to play some passages with a flugelhorn. Since I don't have one yet, I usually play with a bucket mute on my Bb trumpet. A friend suggested I use a GR 67FD flugelhorn mouthpiece on my trumpet to get the sound I wanted. Should I invest in this as a short-term solution while I save up money for a flugelhorn? I think they go for around $165. I use a GR 67M trumpet mouthpiece now. |

Not really convinced by this...I used it, but especially in the high register, the trumpet even with a flugel mouthpiece sounds like a trumpet. If you want to see the results, you can check BrassUniverse's Page - TrumpetCity (misty is recorded with this set up) where i used a DW4FL mouthpiece on my spada (not muted).

![]() ![]() | Re: Flugel mouthpiece on a trumpet - good/bad? A Curry TF will sound more flugel-like than a B2. The TF isn't exactly the same fluffy sound as a flugel, but passable in case you don't have one.

![]() | Re: Flugel mouthpiece on a trumpet - good/bad? I just checked the Curry web site. They list 10 different models with the TF cup design. Any suggestions for what I am going for? I know I should probably play on all ten to test them, but I don't know if there are any dealers in Dallas that will carry all ten models. |

![]() | Re: Flugel mouthpiece on a trumpet - good/bad? This is gonna sound weird, but have you ever tried playing the trumpet with a Crown Royal bag (the velvet? bag that the liquor bottle comes in) over the bell? It gives it a nice velvety sound... |
