| Pianissimo User | Flying with torpedo bag I am headed to VA with my army unit and in a week and then to AZ with them again in July. I have always just used my trumpet case as my carry-on. However, due to a couple of very small turbo prop planes that we will be flying on during connecting flights to VA the airline has told me that the over head compartments are not large enough for my case. I have a friend who has a torpedo bag and I think he is wanting to get rid of it. I know I wont be able to get 2-3 horns on the plane like I usually do, but is this case gonna be ok if I check it in. I know all of the run over it with a car stories and pictures, but we are talking about my brand new baby horn here. Any thoughts? JR

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Flying with torpedo bag What kind of case do you have? They will tell you to plane side check it, but even my brass bags quad fits (barely) on those prop planes. The Yamaha double fits easily as well. I think the torpedo would be fine, especially if you plane side check it.

| Pianissimo User | Re: Flying with torpedo bag I have an Altieri 3 trumpet bag that I use every day, and then I also have a Yamaha Double case and a Bach Soloist Single. I know the bach wont fit, but does plane side checking it ensure its saftey?

![]() | Re: Flying with torpedo bag If you threw the Torpedo out of the plane at altitude, your horn would be fine inside. Checking it is not the issue, but I think the bigger concern is the airline losing it. I have flown those props, too, and have brought my Torpedo Bag on board with no problem. The new Single Outlaw might be the way to go, however, as it's about the size of a standard gig bag and you would not get hassled with carrying it on board. Good luck! |
