Re: Harmon/Bubble Mute I know a friend that uses one of those Humes & Berg Harmon type mutes and it seems to be OK but one doesn't see them used much, frankly, because I believe there are better alternatives. The original Harmon is still hard to beat, I used one for years (had it since I was a kid, somehow it's managed to survive for about 40 years). But my cork was so shot I recently finally bought a new mute (link below). Upon the advice of a few trumpet playing friends I settled on the Jo-Ral Bubble. I must say, it's a huge improvement. Plays better in tune and you can actually hear it. I got this Jo-Ral on sale, the regular price is a bit steep, maybe you can find a good deal on a used one: Jo Ral TPT-2A Aluminum Trumpet Bubble Mute - LOW PRICES at WWBW

Re: Harmon/Bubble Mute Consider the copper bubble mute too. It has a slightly different sound than the aluminum one.

Re: Harmon/Bubble Mute I have a pre-dented copper Jo-Ral Bubble mute that I'd consider trading for an aluminum one, if anyone is interested. A few dents are OK, as long as the cork is fine. Steve Hyde crazyhorns@comcast.net

Re: Harmon/Bubble Mute The Jo-Ral copper is IMHO the best available (the aluminum Jo-Ral is nice too). It's also the new standard (or becoming so) since the "wow-wow" aluminum. I bought mine in the late 80s in NYC at Giardinelli's, It has a lot of miles/dents on it but has aged well with a nice dark patina....It's the one piece of gear I still have and gig with today. J
