Harmon Insertion

I'm looking for a harmon mute that goes into the horn up to its "rim". The mute I currently have seems to stick out an inch or two, which is a little off-putting for several reasons. I've seen artists playing, where the harmon mute appears to go deeper into the bell, right up the perimeter rim of the mute itself, nicely abutting to the bell rim of the horn. I would think playing up tight against a mic would work better in these instances.

Do I need a bigger belled horn, or what? BTW, my mute brand is Harmon. I looked at the Wicks, which seem slightly different in construction.

Any ideas or experienced leads?

Thanks in advance

Re: Harmon Insertion

I don't think it matters much if the mute sticks out a little (which is strange because the Harmon fits perfectly on the 37, don't know why it'd be so much different on other bells). The main question is whether the mute is secure in the bell so that 1) it doesn't fall out and 2) little to no air is escaping except at the opening on the end. which horn are you talking about that the Harmon doesn't fit? Because I thought the NY 7 had a bigger bell than the standard 37.
