| Hello TM bretheren! I am looking for a new set of headphones for my home stereo. I want to get the old school big over the ear type. I would like to know if any of you have any suggestions on what to get. Please tell me of any good or bad experiences you may have had with a given make or model. Thanks |

You can spend as little as $20 or over $500. I use these with with my ipod Sennheiser HD-201 These puppies don't leave home: Sennhesier HD 595 |

| Re: Headphones Another vote for Sennheiser. Sennheiser has an open baffle design that keeps your ears from sweating. I have 2 pair, one is an older set (HD-250 ) that features a closed baffle. My open baffle model (HD 580 ) is far more comfortable. As jcstites mentioned, the HD 595 is the current top model in the open baffle design. It supersedes my older 580 . Sennheiser replacement parts are also readily available. Who knows when you might need a new set of pads, or cord ... I have been able to replace the pads on my HD250's , even though they are over 15 years old. One tip, if you are planning to use these new phones with portable units like I-pod's and computer sound cards. Make sure the phones will be efficient enough to be driven by the smaller op-amps that are found in these portables and computer cards. I have a top gamer card by Creative labs and it's not capable of driving either set without a step up amplifier. Bigger and badder won't mean anything unless you can drive them properly. |

Just check the specs for how efficient they are. I have never listened to Grados, but it looks like I should try some. | |

| Re: Headphones Wow, I just read jcstites link to the newer HD 595's. Sound like some killer phones for the money. MY older HD 580's were well over $500.00 originally . The price of the 595's looks to be about half. You won't go wrong with those phones. They also seem to be fairly easy to drive, so that won't be an issue with the HD595's . The review is right about the 580's being a little less forward . However, my older HD 250 were decidedly not, and I can tell you that the HD 580's are easier to listen to for extended periods with less fatigue as a result. | Re: Headphones There are all sorts of headphones and the best depends on your ears and situation. I am in a place with lots of noise and found phones that block the noise to be very helpful. I use these; Noise Cancelling Headphones, Noise Reduction Headphones, Extreme Isolation Headphones - Quiet Headphones I have the EX-29. |

Great sound and you can hear what's going on outside the phones. The 414 has foam earpieces that I was able to find on line somewhere some years ago. |
