i need help please (mouthpiece)

Hi everyone, im new to this forum.

I play the trumpet for my highschool band and ive played with a 3c for the past 3 years.i can play the high notes but i want to play with a clear dark sound.
i now want to step up to a megatone. i want to reach the high notes since its still football season and i am about to play with a jazz band.

what megatone mouthpiece will be the right choice?
i was thinking about a 1d or a 3c

is it a big change from a bach 3c to a megatone 3c?

I do believe a megatone 3C is exactly the same, just with extra mass. I would stick with what works for you, which is the 3C, apparently.
I'd go for the 3C megatone.

A 1D has a diameter that is 0.7mm wider than that of a 3C. The cup, however is Medium-Shallow, as opposed to Medium. It tends to lend a bright, brilliant sound, and makes it easier to play in the higher register (Doesn't increase your range, but makes it easier to play high)

Re: i need help please (mouthpiece)

If you want a dark sound you do not want a shallower mouthpiece. As the earlier poster stated it gives you a bright brilliant sound, not dark. I would suggest that you get with a good trumpet teacher and work with them. If you follow what they tell you and state your desires they will help you. Hardware is not usually the answer the answer rests with you and your playing.

Re: i need help please (mouthpiece)

Bach Megatones are used to darken the sound.
Megatones are a wonderful piece, I use one myself for Concert Season.
The megatone is NOT a good jazz piece in my opinion.
I tend to go for a more brighter piece for jazz.
I use a 3c Megatone for Orchastra and Concert Season.
But, for jazz I use a 5c.

Thomas Gansch uses a Megatone 3B, I believe.

Re: i need help please (mouthpiece)

As far as differences go, the Megatone mouthpieces have a 26 throat, while the standard Bach pieces have a 27 throat.

A 3B is somewhat harder to play high on, and has a very open backbore. These characteristics conspire to wear you out quickly. Nice sound while it lasts, though.
