![]() | Jo-Ral Bubble Mute Hey My new copper Jo-Ral bubble arrived the other day! Wow! Love it! Great sound!! The only problem i have is that the stem wont stay in, it seems very loose. Can i do anything to stop it falling out? (I have a theatre gig in a couple of weeks!) Cheers Nate |

![]() | Re: Jo-Ral Bubble Mute I don't know about now...but when they first came out, they had a little rubber o-ring in a notch - in the center of where you'd put the stem in. Since this o-ring just sat in the notch (nothing was "holding" it in place..like glue or anything)...you lost that sucker in about a week or two, thus rendering the stem useless. I haven't had one since then (a JoRal version)..so I don't know what they did to fix this design flaw. A suggestion for your show is...get another (or use one you had before??) harmon type mute with stem in place and just have it on the side for the sole purpose of when the music calls for "with stem". Use the JoRal w/o stem for all else. At the very least, it might save you some time in switching back and forth....and having to tinker with that stem. I do this often. Have fun...

![]() ![]() | Re: Jo-Ral Bubble Mute Brother, this problem is easily rectified. Put a little slide grease on the stem, the grease you would use on your main tuning slide. It should stop it from falling out, and you'll be able to move it when you need to.

![]() | Re: Jo-Ral Bubble Mute I work in a brass shop and these things are really unpredictable! Some are great (mine is) some are a rubbish fit. If they are too tight we tend to put a rod in the tube (a snug fit is best) then hammer away, a little bit at a time (keep testing the fit of them stem in the mute) it stretches the metal of the tube and should loosen the fit up a bit - Not sure what you could do about them being to loose, grease normally. If that isn't enough, your local music dealer may have an extending tool used when the fit on flute joints are loose, perhaps try the same tool on the stem for your harmon? |
