Kelly 3c

I was thinking about ordering one of these, especially since its getting cold and was wondering, if the kelly 3c is identical to the bach 3c? If not, can anyone tell me the difference? And I don't mean it material or weight, I mean the rim contour and the cup depth.

Re: Kelly 3c

I have thought the same and ordered one for marching band! It doesn't feel different from my original 3c. I don't know, maybe someone else has a different take on this.

study888 is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Kelly 3c

Hello Sungman, the rim will be a Bach 3C rim feel. It may feel a little tighter, due to the stronger grip feel, that the Delrin plastic creates, sheds moisture faster. Silver plate is slicker, stays wetter. Gold plating being the slickest, wettest, with a much softer metal feel. Compared to Silver plate or the Delrin plastic. For playing outside in cold weather the Kelly m.p. will do just fine. Will not bother your embouchure going back and forth from the plastic to metal. You might miss that nice solid grip the Kelly produces though.

Re: Kelly 3c

If anybody else could share, to me the kelly feels like it has a rounder rim and slightly deeper cup. To me the rims aren't the same as a bach 3c.

Re: Kelly 3c

Here's what it says on the Kelly site:

KELLYTM Trumpet Mouthpieces are made entirely of Lexan® material. The cup sizes are patterned after the Bach® series, sampled by our professional staff and are adjusted to produce our final, comfortable, easy-blowing mouthpieces. Our standard trumpet mouthpieces all have a larger throat diameter than their Bach® counterparts. FEEL the Comfort!

Re: Kelly 3c

I personally don't like Kelly mouthpieces. They ruin my tone which is why I don't use mine unless it's deathly cold (below 10 degrees).

The real question is if the Kelly you get will be identical to YOUR Bach 3C and that nobody can say for sure, not even you. Should be close though. Anyway, they are cheap, so if it is not a match you won't be lots of $ and you will be able to resell it.

Re: Kelly 3c

Are the Bach mouthpiece really that inconsistent now-a-days? From what I've seen, the consistency looked liked it increased.

Re: Kelly 3c

My teacher played my (soon to be ex-)Kelly 3C (I play the 5C) and he said that the rim was totally different. Whether that's a problem will depend on your own personal criteria.
