Laskey

I have gone back to Laskey mouthpieces. I am playing the 80C for the Bb, C and some D trumpet parts. The 80S is good for general noise making It works for the Haydn on my Bach 304. The 80F is a surprise to me. I finally have a flugel mouthpiece I like. The Bach stuff never felt right.

All of this is subject to change.........I am a trumpet player

Re: Laskey

Mr. Wise,
Ain't it the truth. We trumpet players never really reach the Holy Grail of mouthpieces do we? I have a Laskey 65* that I really love now. I always liked it, but felt that something better must be out there. That magic MP that will make everything easier. I played a GR for a while and I liked it. But nothing gave me the sizzle to the sound like the Laskey. I recently had Greg Black change the rim size for me. Turns out that was all I was looking for. Now I'm crazy about the Laskey again!! Good luck in your quest.

Wilmer,

Scott's a good guy. We grew up in the Schilke shop together.

Best,

Wilmer,
has something else changed in your life that could change a mouthpiece preference (weight gain/loss, more time to practice, other physical activities, blood pressure)? Or is this "just got lucky on a whim"?

Re: Laskey

All my mouthpieces are around the Bach 1, 1C range. Even the old 3Cs I have are around 1C size I was puttering around with some of the oldies in the collection and came upon the 80C. It felt good..........so I ordered a new 80C and an 80F.
I haven't gained any weight in years.......(Cue James Brown Music) "I feel good"........

Re: Laskey

I have been playing on the 75 series since 2000. I use the 75MD most of the time occasionally the 75B on the Bb when doing parts in the community orchestra on it. I really like the 75* (now 75S) it is the first mouthpiece of that type that I can get a sound out of and it helps me produce a really bright sound when I need that. (I normally don't have a bright sound). I have never been able to downsize on the piccolo and the 75P has worked really well for me it is the best sounding and I am able to play high g's on either side consistantly. (have to use an adapter) Cornet I use the 75DB which works really well although not quite as dark a sound as the Wick 2 or 2b. (thinking of asking Scott sometime about putting the wick 2 cup on a 75 rim) The 75 series is around a Schilke 17d2d (for the MD) or the Bach 1.25. I am planning to get a 75C sometime (think it would help on D trumpet) and the 75F (plan to go Flugelhorn shopping sometime soon)

Rowuk,

Did you gain a bunch of weight before taking delivery of your new Monette?

Re: Laskey

Laskey mouthpieces are awesome. I struggled with certain articulation issues for years on Bach rims. Then I switched to the Laskey 75C in 1999. More than 8 years later, I still absolutely love the 75C.

However...

I switched to Monette horns two years ago (I play in an all Monette section), and had a lot of anxiety about losing my beloved Laskey 75C. But Dean Comley at Monette was able to scan and duplicate my 75C rim and cup flawlessly, creating a Monette mouthpiece that immediately felt exactly like my good ole 75C, albeit with a "Monette" blow and slotting. I have the mouthpiece in all three stc weights. If you currently play a Laskey 75C, may I suggest you try the Monette version that Dean made for me. It is WONDERFUL.

I also have a 75C cup with a Hagstrom backbore that is really nice. That's really a nice combo for orchestral playing.

Wilmer, is the 80C fairly equivalent to the Bach 1c? I play a 1C would that be the one to consider as a firts try Lasky?

Re: Laskey

Here's the Laskey read on the 80 series mouthpieces-

80D 1C style with #1 cup. Helps produce large, clean sound. 1C/1
80B Same rim as above but with classic B style cup. Helps produce clean, round sound. 1C/B
80MD Classic 1C rim but with MD cup. Shape of #1 cup but slightly shallower.
80MC Standard 80 rim with slightly bright sound. 1 1/4 C
80C Classic 1C mouthpiece 1C
80S Shallow cup on large mouthpiece with tone. Great for difficult D trumpet parts. Exceptional mouthpiece for "pops".
