Lead Mouthpiece or all around mouthpiece?

Wanted to know which is better to have.

I currently play on a lead mouthpiece but I feel I take longer to warm up on in the lower register.

Re: Lead Mouthpiece or all around mouthpiece?

A lead mouthpiece I consider is to be one where you can hit high notes with less resistance.

An all around mouthpiece is where you can play in all registers easy and you do not have to switch mouthpieces for playing in differnt registers.

I think you answered your own question.

I understand that and IMHO that is a question only you can answer. There are many outstanding trumpet players who play on basically 1 mouthpiece. I however play on 2, a "legit" mouthpiece and a "lead" piece.

If I had my druthers I would just play on one, but it does not work like that for me.

If you can play the music w/a good sound on 1 mouthpiece then that's would I would go with.

I should point out that I know as much about trumpet playing as I do as fixing the space shuttle.

Re: Lead Mouthpiece or all around mouthpiece?

From my own experience, and I am a lead player in a swing/big band, I would use one mouthpiece all the time.

I use what most people would call a "lead" piece, yet I am ver comfortable playing low A's, G's and F#'s as the music calls for.

Re: Lead Mouthpiece or all around mouthpiece?

Thanks for the help.

I guess It depends on the quality of the sound.

Re: Lead Mouthpiece or all around mouthpiece?

I asked that questions to some professionals that I know. I was told many players do have two mps. One is to use as the chops get soft. I like the idea of one mp. I have seen many a panic strickened trumpet player when they have left one of their mps at home. I've been playing so long now that I have learned one mp well on two trumpets. I have to remember only one mp to bring to a gig. My problem is my music glasses. I sure can't afford to leave them at home.
