Lost in the shuffle? :(
Without going into details, I just "won" a vintage trumpet mouthpiece on eBay -- in excellent condition, and at a ridiculously low price. Now the seller is telling me the mouthpiece has become "lost in the shuffle", and he has already credited my PayPal account for a couple of bucks more than the total I paid him.
My first inclination is to just accept the refund and withhold feedback. We're only talking a few dollars total here. But then, a deal is a deal. And if the shoe was on the other foot (never has been, never will) I'm not sure the buyer would just accept it, and they'd be perfectly within their rights not to.
It just isn't right. It's one thing when sellers end auctions early but when an item sells at auction a contract is completed that all participants agreed to.
What would you do if you found yourself in a similar situation?

You came out with more than you went in with. Take the offering the seller gave you and move on.

That's what I'm thinking.
I really wanted that piece as a back up. Oh well.

Bob,
Accept the refund and don't deal with that particular seller again or be cautious when you do. Do you think he may have sold the mouthpiece to someone else? A refund is less messy than arguing.

Thanks Jon. Believe it or not, it's just a vintage Bach MT VERNON 7C. Probably the most common size but they're becoming harder to find in good condition -- and I'm not likely to ever find one at the auction price again.
I have my old Bach New York 7C (identical to the Mt Vernon Bachs) as a back up currently. It's in excellent condition, no nicks or dents, but it really needs re-plating.
The search continues. If anyone does have a Mt Vernon 7C at a reasonable price please message me. :)

Yes, this was my initial reaction as well. I'm pretty sure the seller just didn't want to let go of his vintage mouthpiece for such a low price but arguing over it isn't worth the grief.

Yep, even if only for fun, or just for the symmetry. The seller can always say it's a different mouthpiece. Besides, I doubt a Mt Vernon 7C will ever sell for that price again.
