RHSbigbluemarchingband has a spectacular aura about
Marcus Bonna Double Case

As Christmas grows near (not really), my family has started asking me what I would like. Now that I got two horns, and need both of them for Paris and London, I figured a nice double case would be awesome. I've been looking around, and I came across the marcus bonna double. Does anyone have personal experience with the case? Will it keep my horns snug? If not, any other cases I should look into? I need a double case anyway, two singles would not be fun on a plane, let alone they don't allow it, so any help would be appreciated.

Oh, I found one for $230 in nylon, is this reasonable for a case?

Re: Marcus Bonna Double Case

That's a reasonable price for the Bonna - if you don't mind sharing where you found them, I'd appreciate it. A friend of mine is looking to replace her (stolen) double.

They are fantastic cases. Very protective, very light, the horns are very snug. I personally use a triple almost all the time because I either need two horns and mutes or three horns or something. My friend used the double constantly. We've both flown across countries and oceans with the cases without any trouble. The double, I believe, will even fit "Underneath the seat in front of you" on an airplane. There's not much extra room in the double, however. You won't be able to fit music in the case, and you might be able to get one or two mutes in the outside pocket, but then they're sticking out, just waiting to thwack into something.

The only real downside of the cases are that they're not cheap (they also aren't the most expensive cases around) and they are hard to find. Most places have a substantial wait time for the cases because of the high demand and limited production.

Re: Marcus Bonna Double Case

Marcus Bona is probably the best at keeping horns safe. I have heard that you can even check them through baggage and the horns make there in tact.

Re: Marcus Bonna Double Case

A triple would be more handy for two horns - that way you have room for mutes or whatever. I just bought a ProTec IPac triple for that very reason - two horns, mutes, mouthpieces, etc. will fit inside, and there's an outside pocket large enough for a music folder. The MB triple is very similar - a friend compared his to my ProTec and said it was a deal for the $130 I paid for it from Dillon Music.

Re: Marcus Bonna Double Case

I agree with Dale on the triple case advice. Carrying things like mutes and stands extra is a royal pain when you are on the road. Marcus Bonna are very fine cases. Better than most factory originals.

Did i make a good choice then? I found it to be a rather decent price, even if it is a used case, a sturdy case, is a sturdy case. Even if its right above my head, ill be worrying unless my horns are highly protected. But ill have to see if I can find a triple for a reasonable price.
