![]() | Which Monette for jazz playing I have a slight dilemma. I need a Monette mouthpiece. I have tried the B4, B4S, B4LD slap cup and B4L. They all play well and have different qualities. Does anyone play the B4 for jazz? I am not a lead player, I usually play the solo chair. I love the sound and feel of the B4, but wonder if it will work on gigs. Any advice would be appreciated. Keepin' it real in the 513. Out...

the question is not if the mouthpiece will work. It is metal and very consistent. The question is whether YOU will work. If you get along with a mouthpiece, then your question makes no sense. If you don't, then your question doesn't make sense either. I play jazz on a B2D, B2M, B2, B4L, AP5, B6, BL, FL2 and B2 cornet. The hunk of metal is not significant, the amount of practice that I get is is. Hardware is NEVER the answer. It can make great perhaps a bit easier, bad, always stays bad until the player wakes up. Just put the mouthpiece in the horn and play. If the results are good, nobody cares how you got there, if the results are bad everybody just wants you to leave. Practice is the only answer.
