Monette Mouthpiece Question! Please Help?

Has or Does anyone on Trumpet Master use the regular Monette B2 or the B2 S3 on a on a regular B-flat such as Conn Vintage One or a Kanstul 1500. I want to know what do you think about using them. Also are they hard to adjust to. I currently use a Bach Megatone 1-1/4C and thought a Monette B2 or B2 S3 would be a logical choice since I like the size.

Please respond as soon as possible!

Thanks

I use a B2 standard coming from a 1 1/4C and have found it a great help in my playing. I particularly like the the sound ..........The adjustment time was relatively short...I just had to learn to relax abit more. I find it works well with most of my horns...from an Olds Recording to my Bach 25LB. There have been many posts on the merits of the B2.

Re: Monette Mouthpiece Question! Please Help?

Years ago I switched from a 1 1/4 Bach to a C2 on my Kanstul 1510. The changes were pretty much immediate. Years later, I updated to the Prana version. The benifits were that much greater again, but I really believed it was good for me to transition in stages. I know the mpieces are pricey, but they have such a good resale value, that it somewhat makes up for the cost.

Re: Monette Mouthpiece Question! Please Help?

I recently purchased a Monette B2S3 and I use it on my B-flat horns (Flip Oakes Wild Thing and Bach Strad 43). It works nicely, but it's taking some transition time for me. Your transition should be easier if you're playing a 1 1/4 C already. I'm making the switch from a Schilke 14a4a, so I sometimes feel like I'm blowing in to a cereal bowl; however, I'm gaining range (catching up to where I was on the Schilke) and the tone that I get is definitely better. I thought I read a previous thread on this site wherein somebody said that you can contact a dealer, such as Dillon's music, leave a deposit on your credit card, and have them ship you a few Monette's so that you can discern what's the best one for you. You keep the one that's the best fit for you and ship the others back. That might be a good route to go since the Monettes aren't cheap (a little north of $200 for non-Prana, if I recall). I probably should have gone that route. For now, I'm forcing myself to acclimate to what I bought; however, in the end, I think that it's going to prove to be a nice MP for me.

Best of luck,
Mike

Re: Monette Mouthpiece Question! Please Help?

I recently purchased a Monette Prana LT B4LS1 inside rim diameter is 0.664 in decimal(about 5 weeks ago). I'm making the switch from Bob Reeves 42S inside rim diameter is about 0,656 in decimal, and it has been such a hard work for me... Especially for the upper register, but my friends told me the new mouthpiece sounds much better. My problem is i get tired so easy...

Need suggestion...

Thanks so much

Warm Regards,
Rio Sidik

Re: Monette Mouthpiece Question! Please Help?

I used to play the Bach 1 1/4 then went to a Schilke 18 and then to the B2. Each change was without pain or transition issues. I just put the mouthpiece in and "never looked back".
Switching to the Monette did make me aware of some unresolved body issues. Some days the high register was incredibly easy and other days just "normal". Learning to relax more when playing helped a lot!
I got a lot of complements about the sound having more core. Sound was never the issue, I switched only because I felt that it was easier to play.

Rio,
I am sure that you are getting tired because you are trying to get the same sound and note placement that you had with your Reeves out of the Monette. The rim size has NOTHING to do with the playing characteristics that you describe.
My first recommendation is to read the pages on body use at the Monette website. I have had students with the exact same problem that you describe and getting their breathing and posture straightened out, helped within 2-3 weeks. That would help regardless of what mouthpiece that you play!

Re: Monette Mouthpiece Question! Please Help?

Hey,

I'm interested in looking into the Monette series of mouthpieces but I have a few questions..can anyone help me?

First I want to know what type of mouthpiece should I look at that will leave room for my chops, (I have a rather large bottom lip), and will allow me to better my upper register, (I can hit an F above the high C cleanly). It also has to be versatile enough for symphonic band playing and also some hefty lead work...

any mouthpieces that can handle that?...PLEASE reply

I use a Bach Strad Standard ML bore 180 series with at Bach Megatone 5c and the Megatone is really straining my upper register.. LOVE the lower register darkness it gives me..but I have some lead solos up and I would like something better...

Please reply

Re: Monette Mouthpiece Question! Please Help?

You might want to contact the people at Monette or Mike Thompson at Thompson Music near Omaha, NE.

When I was looking for a switch from a Bach 1 1/2 C Mike suggested the "1" series. I went to his shop and tried a B1 and a B2. I found that for me the B1 was a better fit. Then mouthpiece that I use 80% of the time is a B12D STC-3 on my Vintage One. The exceptions are when playing lead in a big band I use a B6L and when playing in church orchestra I use a B11 in a STC-1 weight.

Re: Monette Mouthpiece Question! Please Help?

I played a B2 for about 6 months. I loved the sound and feel of the mouthpiece, but I found it really difficult to get used to the deepness of it compared to what I played before. I finally decided that it wasn't for me, not because it was bad or anything ( I would love to find the right Monette mouthpiece for me if I ever think of switching again,) but because it didn't feel right.
Now I play on a Wedge 5c and I am loving it.
