| Piano User | Monette Mouthpieces Just curious, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the real difference is between Monette mouthpieces and other brands/types of mouthpieces. I play on a Monette B6, and have done so for probably about 3 or 4 years. It's a very good mouthpiece for me. But....I'm still in the dark as to what the difference is! (other than price...ouch)

This will give you a technical overview of what is possible with various throats, bores and mouthpiece cups. Dave Monette has chosen a different set of variables than most any other manufacturer. This results in a different basic intonation and a different basic "sound" than with other brands. I am pretty sure that he also uses brass for his mouthpieces of a different "weight" and "temper". This makes playing his stuff a different experience. Whether this works or not depends on your willingness to use your body when playing in the way that Dave designed this stuff for - relaxed and aligned. If you have any other questions then, please ask!

| Piano User | Re: Monette Mouthpieces Awesome, thank you! I knew that they were different, but I never knew how they were different before. I wonder if the sound production (timbre/attack) is any different when you use the monette mouthpieces with and without the monette horns. I've never had the chance to try or hear any sort of difference.
