![]() | Monette testing I recently got to try a friends Monette B15M and got along with it fine. Nice full sound and very 'easy'. The only discernible problem that I encountered was that attacks were a lot less crisp than on my Bach (or GR). Has anybody else experienced this or is it a function of acclimatisation? Regards, Trevor |

Monette is now making mouthpieces in a new "PRANA" "slap" configuration. This is a mouthpiece with a slightly sharper inner rim - which allows for more "pointed" attacks. I play on a Monnete PRANA Bb LTJ trumpet with Monnette PRANA MF III & B4LD mouthpieces Shawn Hines www.shawnhines.com |

You are certainly correct about the slap cups having more pointed attacks, and I agree with your recommendation that Trevor give them a try. As I understand from conversations with the Dean Comley and Dave Monette when I last visited the shop, the rims are the same on slap and non-slap versions. (I couldn't feel any difference when play-testing either.) The more distinct attacks are due to differences in the shape of the area near the bottom of the cup (before it transitions to the throat). I only point this out so that anyone who has a Monette rim they like doesn't worry that the rim will be different if they move to a slap cup. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how they are made - they are just great mouthpieces that are worth a try.
