oldenick has a spectacular aura about
Mount Vernon Mouthpieces

Hi all, I have been looking for some info on Bach Mount Vernon mp's. Specifically, is a Mount Vernon 3c the same size as a current 3c? Is there a level of craftsmanship that sets them apart from the modern versions? This is not a really pressing question but it has been on my mind for a while, I thought I would ask here. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks
Nick

Nick:

Go to the Stork Custom Mouthpiece site they offer a line of mouthpieces patterned after the Mt. Vernon moutpices. Good luck.

Anything "Mount Vernon" from Bach means pretty old. I am not sure how "consistent" manufacturing was back then, but even the modern 3C since Mount Vernon have changed over time. You really need to try them to find out if they work for you. I think Kanstul also sells imitations.

Re: Mount Vernon Mouthpieces

Mt. Vernon and Elkhart mouthpieces are different. I personally find them to be more comfortable, but you may not feel the same way. I've played several Mt. Vernon 7C mouthpieces, and they felt very consistent.

Thanks for the replies. I have ordered a Laskey copy from Dillon, it's on back order. It should be interesting to see how it compares to my regular piece.

Thanks again

Re: Mount Vernon Mouthpieces

Mark Curry invested a good deal of time and money copying existing Mt. Vernon C series rims.
Benge ended up with the original cutting parts, and like all tooling, sharpening changes contours.

On the one hand we have cloning, on the other, natural morphing--trumpet is such a fascinating study!

By the way, oldenick, it looks like the outhouse door in your avatar opens outward, which is a bad practice: it should open inward so the user can block it with their foot as needed.

Truly amazing, the depth of Vulgano knowledge!

I use a Mt. Vernon 7CW, and it is really an excellent piece. Has a great sound, which is suprising, as I am using it.

There are many ancient and mysterious ways to keep the inquisitive away from the outhouse door. The quality of ones tooting can be the most persuasive.
