![]() | Mouthpiece Help!! Hi, I currently play a Bb Yamaha Trumpet. I am the lead trumpet in my high school symphonic band. I currently play on a 7c mouthpiece but I am looking for a new mouthpiece that can help me hit higher notes easier. Any advice for what type of mouthpiece I should get? |

You need to practice, pure and simple. Do a search here and you will find many, many posts on this subject.

Get an Arban's and sit down and play through it. Remember the longer you play your horn the more comfortable you'll get. But also remember to play a little and rest (you need to rest for the same amount of time you played. i.e. 20 mins on the horn and 20 mins off the horn.) Work on breathing drills and remember to have fun. Hope it works out

![]() | Re: Mouthpiece Help!! Although everything thats been said is correct, maybe you should try saying your sylabuls like te or ta......saying te can cause shoter air but a faster motion causing you to play higher, saying ta gives u a longer and more rich tone of a note. I am also in high school and the first trumpet player for symphonic and concert, just remember, when ever your director says blow harder, just think say YOUR SYLABALS! Ps. this doesnt replace the fact of practicing, if u practice these sylabuls ull find that you have a more rich tone and you can play higher. |

![]() | Re: Mouthpiece Help!! Are you familiar with Cat Stevens' famous 20-minute G exercise? That could help, too. Try it- play a G (middle) with your teeth closed for 20 minutes. Bring a book. |

![]() ![]() | Re: Mouthpiece Help!! Hi ambergirl, Yep, a smaller mouthpiece will help with the high notes. However, the Bach 7c is possibly the most popular mouthpiece out there. While some people say long tones, lip slurs, playing really soft and other things to do to play high notes, my twist on it is, if you want play high notes, you have to: 1)Get the sound of different types of high notes in your ears. There are at least two, jazz hot compressed, and classical as heard on some of the Bach pieces played on C or Bb trumpet. If you have a good foundation of what these sounds, sound like, you will be ahead of the game. Remember the three "I's" Inspiration, Imitation, Innovation. 2)practice towards playing high notes. Use a beginners music book and take simple songs up an octave. Just a little bit, 3-4 minutes a day and yes don't give up lip slurs, long tones and playing soft. These help alot of different facets of playing which includes playing in the upper register. |

![]() | Re: Mouthpiece Help!! Hello Ambergurl101. I just posted a two trumpet M.P's for the price of one on the Trumpet Herald Marketplace site. The main mouthpiece is a Vintage #5 Conn Precision Trumpet m.p. in very good playing condition. It is a Lead Trumpet M.P. with a med. shallow cup, rounded rim with a good bite, lip support, that does not cut. The rim size is smaller than a Bach 10 1/2C rim size. I bought it from Dillon's Music,I switched over to mainly Cornets, and use Yamaha Cornet M.P.'s and Cornet#7 size Storks m.p.'s. I have only one Trumpet,a 1947-48 L.A. Olds Ambassador to play around on. I use these Cornet m.p's and a Bach Cornet/trumpet adapter to play it. I had included a nice, in very good condition Reynolds 7A trumpet m.p. for a darker sound if one so desired. It is a Bach 3C rim size for general all purpose playing, with a soft bite and med. rim. Selling both for $22.00,price includes the shipping and delivery confirmation fee. These Conn #5 Precision m.p.'s do not pop up often. They were sold by Conn for lead trumpet playing. This is noted on the Conn Loyalist site. Hope this helps, good luck. |
