mouthpiece receiver on Xeno "to small ?"

I have bought a Yamaha Xeno 8335RGS and I notice the following.

Whatever mouthpiece I put in the heavyweight receiver, it does not fit as my other trumpet. Not as deep.

Does anyone know if the is normal or should I change something? Even other players mouthpieces fit but they don't go so deep

should this be a problem?

I'm sure the receiver is fine, Yamaha has excellent quality control. Horns use different sized receivers, it is mostly cosmetic.

Re: mouthpiece receiver on Xeno "to small ?"

Not all recievers go as far up the shank as others. It's probably the way it's designed, although comparing it to an identical horn is the way to know for sure. When I've used the same mouthpiece on multiple horns, there's usually more than one little ring on the shank where it meets the end of the reciever it the horns are made by different companies. Also, check that your mouthpiece goes in like you expect it too on other horns. Then you at least know that it's the trumpet that's made differently.

Re: mouthpiece receiver on Xeno "to small ?"

Receivers do vary, as do backbores. The amount of mouthpiece protruding from the receiver is usually not important, although if the receiver is out of spec it could produce a larger than ideal gap.

Make a line on the shank of the mouthpiece where it exits the receiver with a fine point marker. Straighten a paper clip and run it down along the inside the receiver until it strikes the leadpipe and catches. Mark and measure that point. The difference between the two lengths is a rough measurement of the gap.

"Normal" gap is about 1/8", but some people like a gap of between 0 and 3/8" of so, depending on the horn and mouthpiece. If your gap is somewhere in that range and the horn plays well there is no great cause for concern.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: mouthpiece receiver on Xeno "to small ?"

The mouthpiece goes in my Xeno's receiver the same as other trumpets. But mine is not an "R" model with the heavyweight receiver.
