Mouthpiece turning yellow

I just recently bought a Bach Silver 7C mouthpiece and it started turning a little yellow after a couple days of practicing. I am wondering if I cared for it incorrectly or something.

It's probably just the earliest sign of silver tarnish. Silver tarnishes in the presence of sulfur. Some individuals simply have more sulfur in their skin exudates, and those people are harder on silver plate. The other possibility is that there is a lot of atmospheric sulfur where you live, whether from fumaroles, coal-fired power plants, or burning wood. Does Vancouver still use beehive burners?

Re: Mouthpiece turning yellow

Hey Hey, a guy from Vancouver! If your mouthpiece is turning yellow then get a new one or get it replated.

Clean it with silver polish , the same one you use on your silverware, they usually contain a tarnish retardant ,so your mouthpiece should stay shiny longer. This mouthpiece may be new to you ,but you don't know how long it was sitting on the shelf, and starting to oxidize in the box.

I second this. Always try the Foil/Salt Water method first!

Besides, players sometimes turn yellow too . . .
