Red face mouthpieces

sorry you guys... i put a post for which trumpet to buy, but i also wanted a new mpc for my trumpet. the trumpet i have is a getzen eterna 700 special...but its resistance is a little bit much for me. mind you im only a junior in high school, but i want to play trumpet for a living. the mouthpiece i have now is a bach 3c gol plated mouthpiece. i was looking at buying a monnette or jet tone mouthpieces, but my instructor said to use them only as paperweights and they're a bunch of crap and waste of money. any ideas on what mouthpiece to get...or just stick with the one i have?

Re: mouthpieces

As with trumpets, if you are looking for a new mouthpiece, try before you buy. A Monette is a lot of money to spend on a mpc but if it works for you, then it is a good investment. With that said, a Bach 3C should be a fine mouthpiece, many people in college and pros use a Bach 3C or something that is similar in size. If you have resistance issues with the trumpet, a mouthpiece isn't going to help that much. You may want a trumpet with an easier blow. ( The Yamaha LA model has a really nice open blow, see your inquiry about trumpet)

I would suggest that you not change mpc and trumpet at the same time. Think of the process as a science experiment; do you test 2 variables at one time. No. because then you don't know what the results of just the one are. You try each separately, find the results, and then, you can try them both together and see if you get the results you want.

If you really feel a new mouthpiece is needed, follow the same steps you would take with a trumpet, try them out, take your instructor with you to listen and tell you which ones have a positive and negative effect on your sound.

Re: mouthpieces

Your 3C is adequate. Don't be fooled by some of the big fancy names. But, you can try them if you like, but do some research as far as sizes, depthse etc. You wouldn't want to pay alot and get something you can't use. Good luck and keep practicing.

Re: mouthpieces

Stick with the 3C and learn to play the heck out of it.

Re: mouthpieces

Hi, Jonster,

How long have you been playing a trumpet?

What did you play before the Getzen Eterna? What mouthpiece did you use then? Was your previous trumpet/mouthpiece combination more easy blowing?

Did you use a different mouthpiece than the Bach 3 before?

Best wishes,

Lloyd
