Mouthpieces for Trial

The lcoal stores around me all carry 7C and only 7C. I'm playing a 7C right now. I want to try some other mouthpieces. When I was playing French horn I loved my Schilke mouthpiece, so I'm leaning toward ordering a Schilke or two for trial. At this point I want an all-around good mouthpiece that will let me play for a couple hours and sound good in my current working range (low-F# to top-of-staff F# or sometimes first-line A) and not get in the way of expanding my range. I don't want a "lead" mouthpiece or anything gimmicky.

So I'm thinking of ordering a 15 or a 15C4 or a 16 or a 16C2. I'm not sure about those rim shapes.

I'm really confused about the Bach sizes because everyone says they are so inconsistent. Is that only the name-brand Bach mouthpieces, or all mouthpieces that use the Bach sizing standard? Should I order a 3C from some random company to check it out?

Should I throw one of those lexan ones into the shopping cart as well, just to see how it plays differently than the standard nickel?

Should I shut up and play my 7C for a lot longer before I even try other sizes?

try as many as you can... if you didn't already know mouthpieceexpress.com has a trial period. Basically you order as many mouthpieces as you want, pay for them and you have thirty days to try them out. If you don't like them send them back for a refund... pretty good deal... I've used them a couple of times.... it's how I found my Stork 10xms.... ;)

7c is definately the ideal beginer mouthpiece. After you feel comfortable with playing then I'd suggest a 5c or 3c for concert band. Really I feel most comfortable with a 3c now after 5 years of playing though I did play a 7c for a year before switching.

Misty if the 7c is not causing you pain while you are playing stick with it a little while longer. If it hurts when you play definitely make a change.

No it doesn't hurt. I'm sure that I need to build endurance before anything else. I just get curious. I think I am a natural gear-head. :) I'll stick with the 7C for a while.
