![]() | MPC Sleeves and Trim Kit VooDoo I bought a '54 Olds Ambassador Trumpet that came with a set of heavy Harrelson Bottom Caps. The Horn is a lot heavier to begin with than my '82 Yamaha and I immediately preferred the basic tone and the way it plays. I thought the Bottom Caps looked cool but was very skeptical that they really did anything sonically. Well....they do. So I ordered Top Caps and Finger Buttons..all heavyweight. The Horn plays very differently (in a good way). My control is better at low volumes and slotting is better especially in the C-G range (below High C) This makes me interested in Sleeves but I want to understand what it REALLY does to make sure that it is something I really want. A lot of marketing hype seems to be set up to lure in people that are looking for a magic bullett for playing High and Loud. I am not really interested in either. Can anyone really explain what Sleeves do sonically? I know that the increased mass reduces wasted energy but beyond that... jmp |

A sleeve, either traditional or my design changes the way the metal vibrates, thus changing the velocity and wave that is produced in the mouthpiece.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: MPC Sleeves and Trim Kit VooDoo I use Curry Monstersleeves on my Curry mouthpieces. I like the effect on all my horns, be they lightweight or heavy--they take off the "edge" without affecting the upper register, and this suits the styles I play and my personal taste. They let me sound more like "me." "Tis but one person's opinion, though.
