Mpces are like golf clubs....

ok...so how do you know when you have found the right piece....I play golf with a 6 hcp...so I am pretty good at the game...but it took me awhile to find the right club...angle, lie, shaft thickness etc....not saying that is all that contributes to my game....practice ofcourse is a major factor for anything ,including trumpet....but with so many brands and sizes how does one know when they have found the "perfect" mpce for them? I am not someone who thinks " I have a certain piece for certain types of playing". When does one realise they have found the right piece that does the job and where does one start????

I play a fair amount of golf also and I know I'm hitting the right clubs when it feels right. I notice a huge difference in the way I can hit the ball, but no one else can see the difference. My score also doesn't change too much. I think mouthpieces are very similar. I perceive a big difference in how mouthpieces play and sound, but people who listen to me don't. I've heard recordings of myself playing the same piece on different mouthpieces and it's hard to tell the difference. The feedback to the player in both examples is far greater than the end result.

The perfect mouthpiece will be the one your wife puts into the casket with you.
