New Case for a College Student

I also posted this on the TH, but it looks like since I last checked this site is getting more traffic, so I'll try here as well (in addition to hanging out here more).

I haven't been in the market for a new case in forever, really. I've just used the case that came with my horn. While Conn's case is large and allows me to fit everything that I need inside of it (straight mute, cup mute, valve oil, slide grease, two mouthpieces, Conn's extra tuning slide and modular valve weight system), its also very large and very heavy. I'd like to get a new case that allows me to fit my horn, mutes, music, and vital accessories (at least one mouthpiece, valve oil, slide grease, and both mutes). In addition to doing this, I'd like it to be exceptionally protective and as light as possible, as I'm usually biking to campus with my books as well. So far, one case has seemed like it would fit the bill perfectly: the Torpedo Bag. However, I wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions. Ideally, I'd like the price to be on the lower end of the spectrum (even the Torpedo is a bit up there, as carrying everything I want would probably require their mute pouch and their music pouch). However, assuming price were no object, does anyone have any other suggestions that fit these requirements? WolfPac? Guard? Reunion Blues (I gather that a lot of these are only for multi-horn bags)? Also, can anyone who has used or uses the Torpedo Bag comment on its weight, performance, and especially carrying capacity with the attachments? Oh, finally, since Chicago puts my trumpet at risk to both snow and rain, waterproof would be nice!

Many thanks for all help!

P.S. Should the Torpedo bag be the case with the most votes, where is it available cheapest?

Edit: I should add that the others I've looked at in some detail include Gard's single trumpet bag, the WolfPak (and presumably this would mean Rocky Mountain Cases, but I'm under the impression they are no longer available), and I saw a GIG case on WWBW that offers the same backpack style, but I'm not sure how it performs. Again, this is not an exhaustive list, simply what I've found on WWBW. Any suggestions are most welcome.

I use a Torpedo bag for my Eclipse. I have the mute bag attatchment. I carry, the trumpet, in the bag and a mouthpice triple case, a cup, straight, harmon, and pixie mute as well as a Tuxedo plunger, and my Hamilton trumpet stand (in two pieces) in the mute bag.

I keep valve oil and my business cards in the top of the case in a seperate case that is built into the top.

It is lightweight and durable.

The Torpedo is great. As you know already it is virtually indestructable and ultra-protective of the horn. Don't sell the accessory packs short... they hold a LOT of stuff. I've had this one for over two years now and the bag is as good as the day I bought it... no hanging threads, no blown zippers, no broken pull tabs.

There are several good dealers for these things and, although rare, one does pop up on Ebay or in the Marketplace forums both here and in TH every once in a while.

I have a New Getzen deluxe hard case with combination locks, music pouch and room for one trumpet and mutes I would give you FREE OF CHARGE as an investment in your music education if you cover the shipping costs. You can see the case on the Getzen website if you want a picture. Let me know if you could use it NOT resell it? For anyone else, $50 bucks (it worth $200 bucks) plus shipping...no begging please ha.

Finish Well,

Hey Dan,

Thanks for the very generous offer. While I definitely appreciate it, I'll have to pass. There is nothing wrong with my Conn case, its just difficult to be lugging around with me all the time given its weight and the fact that I live far enough off campus that biking is my preferred mode of transporation. In this regard, I think the Getzen case would be no different than my trusty case that came with my V1.

Nevertheless, I can't thank you enough for the very generous offer--definitely glad to be a part of this community!

I ride a motorcycle and love the pro-tech extreme. it carries everything that I need and protects the horn well. the best part is the price. it comes with back pack straps that are comfortable enough to ride 40 minutes each way to big band reh. check them out it may help you out until you get the coins for a torpedo or m.b. case.
