painted mutes

a friend of mine has an aluminum jo-ral bubble mute, that has "seen better days" and wanted to know if he could repaint it somehow. he was considering silver spray paint, or black.
would this affect the tone in any way?

Re: painted mutes

yes it probably will, but so what?. The difference in sound between 2 players on the same horn, mouthpiece and mute will still be MUCH greater.

If you are going to paint it, then do not wimp out with boring colors!
